So i've been sketching for a long while since ive actually made anything. I think thats what i really enjoy out of drawing in general. Its throwing my ideas on paper before i can forget them. The thing with deviantart is that i'm constantly pressured to be on par with those who finish things, and god knows i move on to new ideas too fast for that. Not to mention that the stuff i draw is constantly evolving from my old style, to newer, more polished ones that i keep trying to improve. So why does that mean i can't up load about a ton of crap to deviantart? it doesnt, and it might gain me some new folks to watch and chat with about the stuff that we're here to observe. Not having people around me locally that have any artistic merit (and thats not an insult, its people who hold no value in it, or dont bother trying), makes it hard for me to improve.
On a lighter note, i find i really like having people do me commissions. it takes forever if youre waiting, but i love seeing other styles of my own characters. TrainerBam did some marvelous work for me, and now i'm getting a commission done by acssei, who's got a fun realistic style that i like to see done on my less realistic characters.
Ive been dropping watched deviantartists lately, not because of any sort of talent, but little things that bother me. i wont name names, because its all opinions of my own. One was because he did nothing but commissions, and though they were high quality and attractive, they were basically the same thing over and over. The same faces and seemingly perfect body, since they were mostly half dressed heroines, repeated over and over. I appreciate beauty in artistic form, but god do i get bored easily. Its also why i grimace when i see tons of anime on a page - its pretty much the same thing over and over from a style point of view. Though i suppose it always is, i tend to see the same stuff on those pages. Another one i dropped had a very entertaining comic that i watched him specifically for. Unfortunately he hasnt updated it in like six months. Other than that though, he's definately a talented individual and an interesting person. However, he also writes journals about seven times a day and though i suppose its endearing to his "minions," his egomaniacal (though obviously intendedly humorously put) posts still seems to grate on my nerves. It was all "hey guys, ill be here, lets do this, or i'm doin this this weekend, if youre in the area, blah blah, then hey, i'm drunk on the floor, or someone blogging that he's drunk on the f loor. Honestly it might be because theres no point at all to any of it half the time. Even when he finally started posting artwork, even if they were good and clever commissions or personal doings, it wasnt enough to keep me around.
All in all, i'm not sure if its because i'm jealous, petty, or just easily irritated. Still, i kept the guy who i like but doesnt have much in his portfolio, rather than keep the professional poplular folks around. Go figger.
